First viral load very high. Normal?
Aug 12, 2007
I am newly infected. I was sick in June so I got tested for hiv. I got a neg result on June 28. Then on June 29 I went to my doctor and he did a viral load to see if I was in the acute phase. Unfortunately it came back showing a viral load greater than 750,000. When someone is in the acute phase and testing neg on an antibody test is a viral load this high something to really worry about?
Response from Dr. Holodniy
No, not usually. Once your immune system has begun to contain viral replication, the viral load will drop. Usually at 6-12 months, we can determine what your "set point", or what the stable viral load level you will have is.
