CD4 Drop
Aug 4, 2007

In November 2006 (3 months after contraction) my CD4 count was 494 and my viral load 16,400. Now my CD4 is 424 and my viral load was 4,300. What do you think the chances are that my CD4 will continue to drop? Is it usual to keep on declining. I am happy my viral load is lower, but it seems barely significant. I'm not on meds, but I'm worried about having to take them. Thanks.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Those are not really significant changes in either of your two lab results. A third number you should keep track of is the CD4 percent, which is usually a more stable number over time. A couple of more time points on the line will better determine what the trend in your numbers is. At this point you don't need HIV meds.
