AIDS to HIV Status

Jul 30, 2007

I was recently diagnosed with AIDS (30 cd4 & 7,900 vl). Since then I have gone on treatment and my CD4 counts have gone above 250. Do I still have AIDS or am I considered an HIV patient now?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

AIDS is usually defined by a CD4 count < 200 or < 14%. If the CD4 percent is still < 14%, then yes. If it has increased to > 14% then no.
