Jun 10, 2007

I am recently infected (about 7 months) and am trying to make a decision on whether to start meds. My CD4 count is 271 and my viral load is 297,000. 3 months before my CD4 was 284 and viral load over 500,000. My regular doctor doesn't want me on meds yet and an HIV specialist says I should start within 3 to 6 months at least. I'm torn??

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Go with the HIV specialist. You are at the tipping point where the more time that goes by, the steeper the slide of your CD4 count and percent with that high of a viral load.
