Did my Hep-B vaccine work?
Apr 8, 2007

Dear Dr. Holodniy, After testing + for HIV I was vaccinated for Hep-A and B. My cd4 counts were between 609-689 during the six month vaccination period. I am now on meds for HIV but have a partner with chronic Hep-B infection. He was treated with Hepsera till his viral load went to undetectable. He is now on Sustiva and Truvada. I would like to know if the vaccine worked and if I am protected. Which test should I ask for to know if I am infected with Hep-B or protected by the vaccine? Thank you!

Response from Dr. Holodniy

The HBV surface antibody test.
