|virus impact on CBC results
Mar 31, 2007
Dr Mark, In addition to the known effect on cd8s and cd4s, will the virus also have an effect on, and be reflected in the results of other CBC values ? I guess every case can be different but typically speaking does hiv cause a higher than normal level of microglobulin, or low levels of hematocrit, or do neutrophils change, or monocytes, or total lymphocytes values range ? Wher is it most likley for these values to deviate from normal and therefore should the CBC be monitored more closely in addition to the subset CD monitoring ? Thank you

Most of the other values in the CBC will not change, until someone has AIDS and anemia might be present. HIV meds or other meds can affect some of the numbers, as can other infections or medical illnesses.
