fast before blood draw?
Dec 8, 2006

am i to fast 8 hours before having blood drawn for viral load/CD4 tests? another question are they looking at drug levels at the same time to see if our bodies are clearing the drugs properly or if they are at an optimum level. say sustiva makes zoloft longer to clear is that being checked those levels don't get too high at the sametime as this viral load, CD4 count? i hope this question isn't to jumbled to answer. thanks. tim - in san diego

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You don't need to be fasting to have your CD4 count and viral load checked. No they don't routinely check drug levels in your blood. Only if there is a problem (side effects or poor response to HIV treatment).
