Reading HIV lab report
Dec 2, 2006

my CD4, count (u/L) is 431. My cd8, count, QN (/uL) is 1899. There are other numbers as well for CD4/100 cells, QN (%) which is 15 and CD8/100 CELLS, QN (%) which is 65. It's all Greek to me, even after the doctor tried to explain it to me. Can you help?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Your CD4 count is 431 and 15%. Your CD8 count is 1899 and 65%. The count is the absolute number and the percent is the percentage of lymphocytes. Your CD4 count is relatively good and your CD8 count is markedly elevated which is a good sign and a normal reaction to HIV infection.
