| TB and PCP Oct 21, 2006 My friend was just diagnosed with HIV/AIDS his cd4 count was 17 I am not sure about his viral load He had many things wrong with him when he went to the ER first MRSA infection in lungs, PCP, and now they are saying he has latent TB in his lungs. I am wondering if all of these conditions have the exact same symptoms how in the world can they diagnose latent TB versus active TB? He was coughing, had night sweats, lost weight, etc etc |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
It may be the fact that cultures from sputum or lung material grew MRSA and revealed PCP, but no TB grew in the cultures. Sounds like he had a positive TB skin test which makes him exposed (infected), but without active disease. | |||||||||
