follow up re elevated CPK with no HIV meds
Jul 30, 2006

Hi - You just answered the following paragraph for me and I appreciate it. But most importantly, I don't take any HIV meds. Still unimportant? (Previous question):I see lots of questions answered about elevated CPK results from those on HIV drug regimens. I'm positive for two years now, always test under 200, usually under 50, for viral load. I'm tested often as I'm in a study for so-called "controllers." Everytime the blood results show elevated CPK which is always dismissed as nothing.Should I be concerrned? From other posts I see much higher numbers, but mine is between 350 and 750 consistently. (I am definitely not a gym rat). AST of 48 and ALT of 49 are only other abnormal results and have slowly risen from normal to these values in these two years. Thanks for your time and this resource.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Again, if you are not taking other medications (non-HIV meds) and there are no symptoms or signs suggestive of other medical conditions going on, then nothing further to do.
