Dropping CD4 with Undetectible VL
Jun 10, 2006

My VL has remained consistently undetectible since 1996 with only a couple of small blips. CD4 has remained normal. However, Cd4 is now dropping for some reason...physician can't explain. In July 05 was 809, Oct 05 was 640, May 06 down to 504. I have never been give my percentages, only the #. Can you explain. Also, no other infections...good health.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

It is hard to know without the Cd4 percent whether this is a signficant trend or not. In addition, it would be helpful to know what your total white blood cell (WBC) count and total lymphocyte counts were. If either of these numbers went down, this could affect your absolute CD4 count even though the percent didn't change. Given the longevity of infection and the undetectable viral load I am not that concerned with this trend.
