Increasing my monocytes
May 14, 2006
I am a newer more recent patient, and now more then ever doing the most I can to stay healthy, in only a few months time by taking the truvada/sustiva combination, my cd4 cells have come up from below 20 to 178, my monocytes are low 3 on a scale between 4 and 14 id like to know what purpose they serve and if theres anything addtional I can do, suppliments I can take to help improve this number. Diet Etc? suggestions?
Response from Dr. Holodniy
Unfortunately there are no supplments that will increase monocyte number. HIV treatment will help. Monocytes are another very important part of the immune system that helps control HIV replication. Monocytes can also be infected by HIV just like CD4 cells. Thay may explain why you had such a low number of monocytes as well as CD4 cells prior to starting treatment.
