Hep C and Elevated GOT/SGPT
Mar 11, 2006

Dear Dr Holodniy: After years of very slighly elevated and normal tests my GOT came back 132 and SGPT 224. I have never had such a high result even though I have been dealing with this for seven years. I am 56 years and I am concerned that my condition is worsening. Please tell me what is considered elevated liver enzyeme test and is interferon treatment something to be considered if this trend continues.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

There are many factors to consider regarding starting treatment for HCV. Elevation of liver enzymes (at that level) alone is not sufficient. You need to discuss this with your gastroenterologist.
