ARV's are they working

Feb 18, 2006

Hi

thanks for a wonderful site , im 25 and i was under the impression that people on ARV have a fair chance at a normal life , i was thinking of having kids ,but in South Africa people are still dying , my question is how long can a person live with the virus while taking meds?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

That is a book that is still being written. Part of the answer depends on how advanced the HIV infection is, how old a person is, and what other medical conditions they might have. For someone who is 25 and healthy, and who maintains an undetactble level of viral load with treatment, it is likely that a normal life span is indeed possible.
