low cd4 count in latest labs
Jan 22, 2006

Hi Dr, I have been very disappointed with my latest lab results. I have been HIV+ for 4.5 years now, and since I started regular monitoring in late 2003 my CD4 count varied between 650 and 450 (latest 2 were 500 and 640) and my VL has been between 49,000 and 72,000 with a blip last october at 600,000. Now, this week I got a CD4 count of 310. I am still waiting for my VL, but otherwise I feel no difference at all. If my VL comes out high like last one my doctor will start meds, but I am wondering whether this can be another blip in my CD4 count. I have had a rather long case of cold last month and I doubt if that could also effect the outcome. I am really worried about starting meds... Help me please.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I think if your numbers are consistent with the last result, I would recommend that you start HIV treatment.
