| CD4 level Jan 8, 2006 Dear Dr. Holodniy, I have an AIDS patient who started off with CD4=7 when diagnosed. Today, three years on HAART the CD4 is 200 and not rising any more, VL is undetectable. Clinicaly she is doing fine. I would like to know what CD4 level do these patients usually reach? |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
The lower the CD4 count when you start, the lower the maximal CD4 count that can be achieved on treatment. Given the CD4 nadir of this patient and the fact she has been on treatment for 3 years, 200 is probably about the best her immune system can do. | |||||||||
