| my latest counts Jul 3, 2005 Your thoughts on my latest blood counts would be appreciated. I am only highligting the ones where the numbers are not normal: WBC x 10^3 = 1.0 RBC x 10^6 = 3.71 HGB = 11.8 HCT = 33.8 Platelet = 96 SEGS = 46 MONOS = 24 Potassium 3.4 CD4 = 31 My PCP who is not an infectious disease doctor is not comfortable talking about my labs other than to say they are quite bad. I have not had any opportunistic infection and other than slow weight loss and being tired all the time, I feel fine. Thank you for your input. |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
You don't indicate whether you are currently receiving HIV medications or what your viral load is. You have a moderate degree of anemia, and very total white blood cell count, and if the absolute CD4 count is 31, a dangerously low CD4, that will put you at risk for many opportunistic infections. HIV treatment and prophylactic antibiotics are the order of the day. If your PCP is uncomfortable in discussing these numbers or in not knowing what to do, you need an HIV specialist ASAP. | |||||||||
