My daughter, age 21, was infected with Hep C by a tainted blood transfusion at birth. She is not sick, has a clean liver biopsy as of 8/04, and her bloods are checked every 6 mos. Her liver function is normal....her quantitative RNA PCR is 644,000. Is this any indication of anything significant??? Is that a high#? Should we watch the 644,000 to see if it rises? Does that give us any indication that the disease is beginning to progress?????I would appreciate your opinion on this and how high the RNA can go before it is detrimental to her. Thanks.

HCV viral load in general does not correlate with disease stage or progression. In general HCV viral load averages a few million copies/mL. An HCV viral load of 600,000 would be considered on the low side. Unlikely in someone chronically infected that this level will rise.
