| Lymphocyte count decrease Jan 16, 2005 Dear Dr. Holodniy, I have recently been diagnosed with HIV. Will total lymphocyte count from my cbc tests decrease progressively during the asymptomatic period of my infection? How often should I get a Cd4+ count? Thanks |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
Total lymphocytes will decrease slightly, but the reduction in CD4 count is compensated for by the marked increase in CD8 lymphocyte count. Most patients get CD4 counts about 3-4 times per year. More if treatment is initiated or changed. | |||||||||
