Viral infection: puzzling effect on Lymphs, CD4's and Ratio
Jan 8, 2005
Dear Dr. Holodniy,
Happy new year.
HIV under control for past 2 1/1 years and CD4's were 1,200 just 6 months ago. I just had a bad viral infection and my Lymphocytes went way down and my CD4 cells went down to 720, yet my CD4/CD8 ratio increased from 1.03 sic months ago to 1.4 now! Is this typical of what happens during a non HIV viral infection or could it be an acceleration of HIV? I thought Lymphocytes and CD4's would go up during a non HIV viral infection or are there other non HIV viruses that cause them to decline? Should I expect a rebound?
Many thanks and best wishes.
Response from Dr. Holodniy
Doubt this has anything to do with HIV. Change in CD4/CD8 cells with other viral infections has not been studied very well.
