| CD4 has become normal, but CD4/CD8 ratio remains very low Dec 14, 2004 hello Doctor, I am 47, male and co-infected since 1984. I am a slow progressor, started treatment (Kaletra,Zerit,Epivir) only 3 years ago at VL 80000 and CD4 384, CD8 around 900. CD4 has improved since then first slowly, then rapidly to 775 (this summer), but CD8 went to up 2550, resulting in the same CD4/CD8 ratio as before starting treatment. Why could this be? Does the high CD8-Count mean I have a higher risk of getting ill, as someone told me? Thank you for an answer! |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
CD8 cell increase is a natural reaction to HIV infection and is generally a good thing. CD8 cells are the main cell that fights HIV infection. | |||||||||
