HIV - 1RNA copies/ml Jul 25, 2004 Hi Doc, me again and my HIV-1 RNA copies/ml. Ive gone back to the lab report & it says: HIV-1RNA copies/ml DETECTABLE. Viral copies were detected and validated but fall below the minimum limits of this assay ie 400copies/ml. I hope this gives more clarity than my previous questions. What is the meaning of this result? When does the body's immune system start to produce antibodies against this virus? |

 Hmmm... This probably indicates that signal is above background and therefore positive, but below the approved FDA quantitation limit of this assay. Most viral load assays use a < 50 copies/ml cutoff. Thus, it is likely you would have a quantifiable number if the ultrasensitive assay was used. Antibodies are beginning to be produced within a few days of infection. Detection may take week or two after infection. | ||||||||
