Viral Load & Depakote
Feb 28, 2004

I've been HIV+ for three years and my viral load in September of 03 was 28052. In Febuary 02 my viral load downed to 708. I'm not taking meds and the only change has been I started take Depakote. This there any studies that show Depakote impacting viral load?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

There is one published retrospective study looking at this question in a small number of patients. Most of them were on HIV meds and a couple were not. Depakote did not seem to alter viral load levels in either group. Your reduction is a significant one. You don't indicate what your CD4 count has been during this period. I suspect it must be quite good.
