| Labs Result Confusion Nov 9, 2003 Dear Dr. I have the lab result last week which needs more information. CD4 86 5 CD8 830 48 Lymphocyte 1730 47 WBC 3680 Hb 13.3 Hct. 40.2 White Blood 3.68 x1000/mm3 Red blood cells 4.60 Platelet Count 213 x1000/mm3 I also have other symptom on skin problem/ hurting my throat in past months etc. Could you please tell me the status of HIV infection. Any recommendation on starting drugs? How can we interpret this result? We hardly have an expert in my country so I desperate wanted to know the information. Hope to hear from you very soon. Rgs MC |

If you are known to be HIV infected, then that CD4 is quite low and would be considered in the AIDS-defining region. A viral load would be helpful in monitoring treatment effect, but not absolutely necessary, as most experts would agree that given that CD4 count, treatment is required. | |||||||||
