How sensitive is a viral culture for HIV? I mean, what is the percentage of false negatives and is viral culturing attuned to detecting all subtypes and groups of HIV?

The false negative rate is high, perhaps 10-20% (unacceptable for a diagnostic test), but has not been rigorously studied across subtypes.
