| Viral culture/sensitivity Jul 3, 2003 Dr. Holodniy, Thanks for your answers to my questions in the past. How sensitive is a viral culture for HIV? I mean, what is the percentage of false negatives and is viral culturing attuned to detecting all subtypes and groups of HIV? Thank you. |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
The false negative rate is high, perhaps 10-20% (unacceptable for a diagnostic test), but has not been rigorously studied across subtypes. | |||||||||
