Normal drop of CD4?
Jun 14, 2003
Dear Dr Holodniy.
I currently live in Mozambique and since I came I tested positiv. My first labs where CD4 397, CD4 22, platelets 127. Now six months later my CD4 is 317 CD4 18 and platelets 111. Is this drop normal should I start considering meds? here they do not start treatment until CD4 is <200. thank you.
Response from Dr. Holodniy
The drop in both CD4 absolute count and percentage would be considered significant. Most practitioners would probably get another point on the line. If the trend was still down, they would start treatment. In the U.S., your current CD4 count would be considered at a level where treatment would be started.
