Natural immune restoration

Oct 11, 2002

I wrote earlier (on Sept 16) describing almost exponential T-cell growth over the last 18 months.

You asked about my viral load during that time.

Viral load has been mostly undetectable after initial suppression of a viral load of 25000 and CD4 count of 15. The year was 1997. In 4/99 CD4 of 250; 8/00 CD4 of 310; 9/01 CD4 of 396.

Between Jan of 2000 and Aug of 2001 I had a bout of anal cancer treated twice surgically (I did not receive either chemo or radiation). During that time I had viral loads that were undetectable but sometimes tested up to 200. After surgery my first set of tests was in 1/02. I had an undetectable viral load and an increase in CD4 T-cells to 455. That continued with a second major increase in 5/02 where CD4 went to 560. I feel great. I see no literature describing similar trends.

I'm just trying to understand these good results.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I have no explanation. But it sounds great to me.
