Eliza positive 3x, western blot negative, bands counted-negative, why...
Aug 10, 2002
I have had an HIV test taken on two seperate occasions where the initial test was positive, but the confirmatory tests indicated no HIV infection. My last pregnancy I was really sick, They did a test and again at first it showed up positive. At that point they did a test, something about counting the bands? In my blood I suppose. Anyway, there was no HIV detected. But why do I keep getting these positive test results at first, and is there any other disease or medical condition that would cause a positive test result?

Pregnancy is but one of several medical conditions that could result in a positive screening antibody test, but a negative HIV western blot and hence no HIV infection.
