is 188,000 a high viral load does this mean aids
Jul 28, 2002

my very best friend in the whole world just tested positive, and now we just found out her viral load is 188,000 and her t-cell count is 550 she also has HEP C .can someone please tell me if this is real bad. is she going to die and does this mean AIDS. Please someone be honest with me

Response from Dr. Holodniy

AIDS is defined as having a CD4 count of < 200 or < 14%. You cannot have an AIDS diagnosis based on a high viral load count. A CD4 count of 550 is quite good and is a long way off from having AIDS.
