VL going back up, fast!
Jun 11, 2002

My husband was diagnosed with the virus in 2/97. At that time his VL was in the 3 millions & CD-4 was down to 170. He also had double pneu., at that time..Thats how he was diagnosed. They had to try several cocktails to find the right one. Since that time, his VL dropped to undetectable & CD-4 went up to 800. Heres the question..The last 2 blood works hes had done (monthly) shows his VL went up to over 800. His CD-4 was still rising. Last night he got new results.. VL is over 1200 & CD-4 is the same..Its not dropping. What does this mean? Hes a fighter thats for sure. Please help. Any advice or suggestions? What does it mean?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

It sounds like the drug regimen may be failing. I would recommend getting a resistance test to see what medications can be used next. A CD4 count decline may lag behind a viral load rebound.
