Retired worried well
May 13, 2002

Dr. Mark,

I wish to thank you for all of your good works and commend you on the valuable service which you all at "The Body" provide. However, with that being said, I don't think that I will ever surf your site again. I am officially retiring as a "worried well". I won't bore you with all of the details of my story; but as most "worried wells" I engaged in a low-no risk activity and then began to obsess about it. It got so bad that over the last 6 months I have read every book and publication about HIV, I have surfed every web site (The Body is one of the best), taken every test (PCR's Antibodies, etc. etc.), and thought endlessly about how my life with HIV would be. My message is to the "worried wells" is trust the professional advice of your doctors and trust the tests. You can not effectively diagnose yourself, trust me. Over the last six months I have had myself diagnosed with everything from Beri-Beri to HIV. The one ailment I do have is OCD, and I am currently seeking treatment for this. So to those of you out there worrying, please channel it away from HIV and attack your "real " probles head on. God bless you all and God bless those with any and all afflictions.
