Dear Dr. I am not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this question. Perhaps if it is not, you can redirect me. A friend has been diagnosed as having stage three (3) AIDS. Currently his VL is approx. 500,000 and CD4 approx. 200. Current meds include, among others, sustiva, combivir. What exactly does stage three involve as far as treatment options/prognosis. Thank you.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I have to plead ignorance. I don't know what stage 3 AIDS is. By definition, a CD4 count of < 200 or 14%, is considered a diagnosis of AIDS. MH
