It is important first to find the reason for why the platelets are so low. It could be related to HIV or one of many infections or cancers that can cause low platelets. Medications can also cause low platelets. Finally other immune diseases can do this as well. Treatment options are to treat the HIV, or other infections first. If platelets are still low, oral steroids, gammaglobulin infusion, or taking the spleen out may be other options. MH | |||||||||
