| Percentage on lab results Jan 20, 2002 After a few years of being poz, several different conbinations of meds , with bad side affects, I have been off meds for 10 months. I have kept it monitored by my Doctor. last lab result (3 months ago) viral load was 74,000 and t-cell was 548. Just received latest lab results, numbers improved, however percentage went down, not sure I understand this . Any chance you could explain? My Doctor uses a battle fiels explanation, percentage rate is around 21 now but VL is 34,000 and t-cells are a little higher. should I be on meds in your opinion? thanks! |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
I think if your CD4 count is in the high 500s and 21%, and the viral load is 34,000, you can afford to wait a while longer and not start treatment again. Your percentage of CD4 cells is a more stable number over time. The absolute CD4 count can fluctuate over the course of day, with acute illness, stress, recreational drug use, just to name a few.
