| Accurate PCR test Dec 23, 2001 I had a PCR in Oct 01 with a viral load of 3.9 million. I have had several PCR's since but none have given an actual number only that there were greater than 600,000 copies. My doctor doesn't seem to care about getting an actual number, I do. How can I order a test that will give an actual number for the viral load? |

Almost all labs will only perform the test according to the manufacturer's recommendations in the package insert. The test has a certain range, and results above this high cutoff are only reported as above the cutoff. There are procedures available (dilution schemes) to determine the absolute copy number. Some labs may do this for an additional charge, but I can't tell you which ones. MH | |||||||||
