Liver Cirrhosis
Apr 27, 2008

My mother-in-law, 52 y/o was diagnosed of Liver Cirrhosis last Feb. 10, 2008.

On Feb. 14 she was underwent some lab tests in particular HBsAg & its results was reactive.

Feb. 27 she was advised by another doctor for a lab test HBV-DNA-VIRAL LOAD RT-PR(TAQMAN) and the result was this:

RESULT: 32 IU/ML

REMARKS:

1. HBV-DNA VIRAL LOAD-RT PCR (TAQMAN) DETECTION LIMIT: 6-110,000,000 IU/ML (35,-640,200,000 COPIES/ML)

2. SPECIMENS WITH LESS THAN 6 IU/ML (<35 COPIES/ML) IS BELOW THE DEFINED RANGE OF THE TEST.

3. SPECIMENS WITH GREATER THAN 110,000,000 IU/ML (>640,200,000 COPIES/ML) IS ABOVE THE DEFINED RANGE OF THE TEST.

Doctor Holodniy, kindly interpret to us these series of test from our mother, help us understand it in a simplest way. Thank you so much. GOD bless.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

That's a very low viral load is the cirrhosis is due to HBV infection. Given that the antigen test is positive though, HBV is the likely cause unless there are other causes (such other viruses, alcohol, other medical diseases, etc)
