CD4's are flat...when to worry?
Apr 26, 2008

I've been on meds for 2 years. (Reyataz/Norvir and Epzicom or Truvada...I'm in a blinded study.) I'm concerned about the lack of increase in my CD4 count. At what point should I consider switching my regiment? My doctor says not to worry, but I'm concerned she may be shielding me from a troublesome development. Thanks.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Your CD4 percent is very healthy and in the normal range. I tend to agree with your doctor to a point. Something is keeping your absolute CD4 count down. I would be curious to know what your WBC and total lymphocyte counts are. I suspect they might be below normal, and would help explain why in the presence of a normal CD4 percent your absolute number is reduced. Are you taking any other meds or supplements that could be associated with artificially lowering your CD4 count. I don't think it is your HIV regimen.
