CD4 stable but low?
Apr 26, 2008

I started treatment 24 months ago with initial bloods VL>100,000 CD4 136 16%. I was very ill with KS and other infections. Bloods now VL<40 CD4 369 23%. And feeling well. KS dramactically reduced. They have remained at roughly these figures for the past 6 month. My question is - is that it for my CD4? It seems very low and no one seems concerned but surely these numbers mean I have half the immunity of the "average" person i.e. 40%. Will this not cause problems in the future. I am 40 year old white male, non smoker, reasonable health etc.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You have had a great response to treatment, and is somewhat above average for treatment responses, given where your baseline numbers were. I would agree with your doctors and would not be concerned. It is possible you might see some further rise over time, but unlikely back to the normal range.
