False Positives?
Oct 18, 2009
I think I know the answer to this question, but to confirm it...I just have to ask. I was tested positive for HIV in May of this year. My partner tested negative. The only risky behavior I have had was 8 years ago. I did show a Viral Load of 50,000. If this proof I have it for sure? I was biten by a deer tick in March, it has never healed up and looks weird. Is it possible to contract HIV from ticks? Just looking for confirmation I guess. Thanks.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Given what I assume was a positive screening HIV antibody test, along with a positive confirmatory western blot test and HIV viral load of 50,000, HIV infection is confirmed. No, you can't contract it from deer ticks.
