Two False Positives after confirmed HIV infection
Apr 19, 2009
I found out a year ago that I was positive. I had been positive for approximately one year. Afterwards, I went to get my blood work done. My load count was 165,000 and my Tcell was 11. I did not seek medical attention. I continued to live normally. I finally decided to confront my illness and decided i would get a new test to start the process. the test came back as a false positive. A second test was done 8 weeks later. the second test results showed a false positive with more fields being negative. The local HIV doctor has ordered a viral load blood work. He doesn't know about that I had been infected with test results prior. What can a second false positive mean when I am showing more negatives? I have not had any AIDS symptoms, if anything, I am healthier now than ever (ie muscle mass gain) It's two weeks till my test results come back, should i go ahead and tell my doctor that I know I am positive. He said that most likely I am negative because of the way the test results have come back. Could I have defeated the infection or could it have erradicated itself? Could there be another disease disturbing the test results or be imitating HIV infection? I thought that I might have lupus in conjunction with HIV, but whatever facial rash that i get is easily resolved with OTC lotions.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I don't understand what you mean by false positive results. Your CD4 count is 11 and your HIV viral load is 165,000. You must inform the doctor of these previous results.
