Heart disease risk
Jul 19, 2009
There seems to be increasing evidence that HIV and HAART itself will increase the chances of heart disease.
My questions are what can we do to side line this additional risk and how can we check up on it. i.e. what specific blood tests or tests indicate heart disease.
I take a Statin - thus have v low cholestral, I also take daily aspirin and blood pressure meds - meaning normal blood pressure and try to excercise as well as taking supplements such as fish oil, q10 etc.
Anything else I can be doing to reduce the risk.
Thanks
UK.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You are doing all the right things. I am not sure I have anything more to offer. Some practitioners might screen people with a c-reactive protein level (CRP), but not sure it would mean anything in you as you are already on a statin and aspirin.
