Kidney mass and HIV
May 10, 2009

Clarification on previous question on relationship between HIV and kidney mass. My viral load is undetectable. CD4 is around 1000. VL and CD4 have been good for last 10 years +. Kidney mass was found accidently while getting CT scan on what was a benign liver cyst found 5 years ago. Starting having symptoms relating to liver cyst. Repeat CT scan that showed liver cyst and kidney mass larger. Liver cyst was drained and collapsed via ultrasound guided needle biopsy. Found to be benign. MRI performed and L kidney mass and found to be approximately golf ball size. Kidney functions are normal. No symptoms of pain nor blood in urine. Doctor wants to remove mass and I decided that robotic laproscopic partial nephrectomy was the best way to go.

Given your current CD4 count and viral load this is likely not be an HIV related process. I agree with the plan, as taking it out is the way to go.
