Re: Girlfriend has Shingles
Oct 26, 2001

Dr. Feinberg,

I had a quick question about shingles. How long does it last? My girlfriend was told by the doctor she went to she had shingles, but in turn he wasn't 100 sure (why cultures weren't taken I'll never know). Anyway, it is in a very small area (2 x 2 inches) and is already clearing up after 5-6 days. Does this sound like shingkles to you? (I know it is tough without seeing it, but wanted your insight.) Thanks for your help!

Response from Dr. Feinberg

Shingles can involve a relatively small area, and can start healing after about a week. Shingles isn't easily diagnosed by culture, so don't be concerned that her doctor didn't do that.
