My husband has tested positive for CMV. Does this necessarily mean he has HIV? How else does CMV become active? His Dr. has said he may have had dormant mono or Epstein Barr...Does all this coincide with CMV?? He is getting an AIDS test.
Response from Dr. Feinberg
CMV is a viral infection, and you can certainly get it without having HIV or AIDS. In fact, AIDS patients who develop disease due to CMV are actually experiencing a recurrence of CMV that has been dormant in their bodies for a long time, usually well before they got infected with HIV.
