Question about survival and AIDS
Aug 9, 2001

What is the prognosis for someone that has had two failed medicine regiments and now this one is failing too? How fast would AIDS progress? His CD4 has gone under 200 and his viral load is going up. He thinks he has between 5-10 yrs left to live. Is that a good estimate or do you think it could be sooner? Thank you - sag

Response from Dr. Feinberg

You can't really predict someone's survival in the way that you're asking. There are new approaches to treating HIV infection all the time, so having failed prior regimens does not necessarily seal one's fate.
