Bleeding from the scrotum
Jan 27, 2000

My partner had an incident in which a small bump on his scrotum (he describes it as "like a whitehead") broke open and caused a rather extensive amount of bleeding for about a 1/2 hour. He claims there is no mass in the testicles and there is nothing to worry about "unless it happens again" or a mass forms. Nothing like this has happened before. His T-cell count is about 400 (up from 9 three years ago) and he is on Crixivan and AZT (adding the third anti-viral proved impossible because of past problems with his pancreas). Can you offer any advice? Thank you.

Response from Dr. Feinberg

I can't be 100% certain from your description but it sounds like he may have had a skin infection-- these usually drain some pus first and then can sometimes bleed a little, although this sounds excessive. If that's the case then there is no real cause for worry. If it recurs, then a dermatologist may be helpful.
