JC VIRUS TEST
Mar 5, 2000

I RECENTLY HAD A BRAIN BIOPSY TO CONFIRM PML. IT'S BEEN ALMOST A MONTH AND STILL NO RESULTS. HOW LONG DOES IT USUALLY TAKE FOR THE JC STAIN TO COMEBACK?

Response from Dr. Currier

JC is usually detected by a PCR test and may take several weeks. Ditto for special stains of the biopsy specimen. Call your doctor and get him/her to bug the place that is doing the tests-- a month seems long to me.
