Response from Dr. Feinberg
Microsporidiosis is most commonly an infection of the gut that can cause severe diarrhea, weight loss, and even dehydration. It is important to know exactly which type of microsporidiosis your family member has, as some may respond to antibiotic therapy and others may not. If he has a kind that for which there is no specific antibiotic therapy, then supportive care with good nutrition and fluid intake, as well as medicine to control the diarrhea, is very important. |
