Getting infected from the barber
Jul 16, 2001

Hi. Im really confused about whether I could be infected by HIV from my barber. Whenever I get my haircut from him, he always cuts me accidently with his razor which he does regularly change after using on 3-4 people. Im scared that he could have cut someone with HIV and then cut me, hence infecting me with the disease. The cuts are very small, basically small dot cuts on my neck.

Response from Dr. Feinberg

Your barber should use a new razor on each customer. HIV isn't the only disease you can get from exposure to someone else's blood (in fact, other diseases, such as hepatitis B, are far more contagious this way). And don't have sex with your barber, either, unless it's protected.
