| KS confusion Mar 1, 2000 I recently noticed a small -- not even dime sized -- round spot just above the tip of my nose. It is a very pale reddish color and not painful. It appears to be slightly raised from the surface of my skin. I've had acne and blemish scars since I was a teenager. I have been tested about 6 months ago and it was negative. Is it possible to have KS and still test negative? I am retesting tomorrow. |

Response from Dr. Squires
KS in gay men who are not HIV+ has been reported. It appears to be due to a virus called HHV-8 (human herpersvirus-8) which is probably sexually transmitted. Even if your HIV re=test is negative, you should see an experienced dermatologist (skin doctor) in case you're one of the people who have gotten KS but not HIV. |
